How to arrange a small bathroom?
The puzzle of small bathrooms!
Holding a shower, a vanity, storage, think about fluidizing the space without forgetting a touch of decoration to feel good…is not an easy task. Fortunately at Hydropolis, we are here to help. Our expertise in bathroom design and design, allows us to think the spaces best, to make them functional and conducive to relaxation.
Designing a small bathroom requires a number of questions:
What are my needs? How to optimize space? Which equipment to choose?
Here are our 9 tips to best arrange your small bathroom.
1- How do you live the bathroom?
To hold everything in a small space of less than 4m2 is mostly impossible. Better to ask yourself the right questions and understand how to live our bathroom before committing to a project.
How many people use it? How much time do we spend on it? What are the traffic constraints? Rather shower or bath? Built-in or separate toilet? What storage volume is desired? Natural or artificial light? …
So many questions that allow you to better understand the layout of your small bathroom and offer you tailor-made solutions.
Once these elements have been identified, it is time for development!
2- Optimize the space
In small spaces, you have to be clever. Depending on the location of the openings (windows and doors) and water intakes, the layout will already be more or less constrained. In general, our team of space designers prefer the installation of a shower rather than a bathtub. It should be placed as far away from the door as possible, or at the back of the room to provide a more comfortable circulation space.
Depending on the size of the window and your budget work, do not hesitate to reduce the width of its opening to free up space and gain space.
On the sanitary side, if the toilets are in the bathroom, it is possible to create a partition wall to keep some privacy and take advantage of this surface to fix a shelf, accessories, create a niche, etc.
3- Knowing how to use smart furniture
To circulate well in your bathroom and optimize each space, avoid placing things on the floor. It is essential to choose smart furniture. Choose furniture suspended from shallow depths with built-in storage, cabinet columns and use the corners!
As we said before, opt for a shower! Our tip to save storage space in your shower: Install a niche. It will allow you to store your beauty products. To give more volume and perspective to your shower space, play on transparency by installing glass walls.
As for accessories, don’t hesitate to use your walls. Designers compete with ideas and offer solutions complete and design to equip small bathrooms (towel rack, toothbrush holder, soap holders, hooks). Mirrors are smart with concealed storage solutions or magnifying mirrors to be fixed to the wall.

4- Choose colours to enlarge small bathrooms
In small rooms, choose colors that visually expand the volumes. So prefer light colors that will give more depth and brightness to your bathroom. Here too, you have the choice of your desires. The 2021 trends are water green, grey blue, terracotta, etc.
Our tip: To give character to your bathroom, you can decorate a single section of wall with a wallpaper dedicated to wet spaces. Guaranteed effect! It is a very trendy and risk-free solution that we propose in many projects. It can easily be placed in your shower or behind your vanity as here with wallpaper from the brand Wall and Decò.

5- Unify your flooring
For floors, as for walls, it is better to favor light colors and especially a unit that offers more simplicity.
Heavy decors are to be avoided, as they reduce volumes. On the other hand, and if you prefer a floor with patterns, we advise you to play on the lines and perspectives. If your room is in length, your tile should be laid in the width direction. If your small bathroom is rather wide, it is the opposite. You will have to lay your cladding in length. In any case, you must choose between wall or floor decor. The combination of the two is not to be allowed.
6- Optimize your bathroom lighting
In a small bathroom it is necessary to play on the light to optimize the space. Preferably choose a lighted mirror that will accentuate the depth of the room and provide you with quality lighting for your daily care. If you prefer, you can also fix wall sconces next to the mirror.
For the shower area, choose recessed luminaires so as not to overload the room. Finalize your decor with a main luminaire and design as suspensions or a ceiling lamp.
7- Opt for large mirrors
The magic of mirrors …
True object of decoration, the mirror has the advantage of giving perspective and depth to all spaces. In other words, they save us space! Placed in front of a window, the mirror will reflect the light and open to the outside. If you place two mirrors face to face, infinity is available to you. On the shape side, choose a large mirror to decorate your small bathroom.
8- Set up space above toilet
Last tip to optimize the layout of your small bathroom whose toilets are not separated: the layout of the space above your toilet. The most difficult thing in small bathrooms is to find enough space to store all our stuff! So use the available wall space behind your bathroom and fix, without making too much, shelves or storage solutions.
