MUTINA: haute couture tiles for your bathroom

A true trendsetter, MUTINA is now a leader in the ceramic market. Halfway between art and interior design, the Italian brand has combined the use of original materials, tradition and innovation.

Result of a friendship of more than 10 years between MUTINA and the studio Bouroullec, the project «Ensemble» is born. This collaboration brings out two new ceramic collections «Punto et Bloc» and «Pico bois».

• Collection «PUNTO» – Ensemble Project

Developed from the concept that inspired the «Pico» collection, «Punto» is a three-dimensional decorative element that can only be used on walls. The pattern is characterized by large hollow points (Down) or high points (Up) and finds its highest expression when used on large surfaces. Depending on how light strikes the elements, they create unexpected chiaroscuro effects that animate the interiors.

The Up and Down options are available in a single size of 4 31.5 cm, provided on stitches of five pieces each. The palette features five colours in Matte finish (White, Grey, Red, Green and Blue) and five in Glossy finish (White, Grey, Pink, Green and Brown), which is obtained by applying a transparent, polished and glossy glaze.

• Collection «BLOC» – Ensemble Project

«Block» is a terracotta brick produced with the artisanal extrusion process. It is a three-dimensional element designed to build architectural and decorative structures. It comes in a “Natural” version and a palette of four shades – Pearl, Blue, Red and Grey – available in Matt and Glossy finishes. Matt glazed modules are obtained using Mutina Accents paints, while glossy modules are obtained from the application of a glossy transparent ceramic glaze. The holes that characterize the «Block» elements can be left empty, creating vibrant light effects, or filled with «Tube», a wooden accessory available in red and blue.

• Collection «PICO» – Ensemble Project

The range «Pico» in the colors White and Gray is enriched by the declination «Clay», made with the same materials and the same technology as the already existing variants, and of Pico Satin which is obtained using the technology CONTINUA and a satin atomized glaze, which allow to obtain an absolute whiteness, soft and pleasant to the touch. During the development of Pico, Mutina worked on the definition of a regular-irregular texture, declined in two surfaces: Low, with hollow points, and High, with curved points. To add dynamics, it was also decided to use colors like red and blue, applied in small dots in the hollow or base.

Thus, thanks to the chromatic games and the special mixture that give the product an incredible effect of depth and tactility, delicate shadows take shape and activate the relief, making the tiles colder or warmer depending on the chosen color. Available in 120 120 cm, 60 120 cm and 60 60 cm, «Pico» is characterized by a natural and refined finish, and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

• Collection «PICO» – Ensemble Project

• Collection «PICO BOIS» – Ensemble Project

«Pico Bois» is the first parquet made by Mutina. It is a material dear to Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, because it is often used in Breton houses to give a feeling of warmth to the interiors. As its name suggests, it is an evolution of «Pico» (the first collection made by the designers and a great classic of Mutina), of which it recalls the graphic pattern composed of blue and red dots, printed on the surface to highlight the wood texture. The slats «Pico Bois» are made of European oak in the format 7 49 cm, with a thickness of 14 mm (4 mm of top layer and 10 mm of birch as support) and a micro bevel that exalts its quality, facilitating installation.

• «BRAC» collection by Nathalie du Pasquier

«Brac» is a brick designed by the French artist and designer Nathalie Du Pasquier. It is a three-dimensional element of the size of 13x22x10 cm, imagined as a versatile module for all types of structures (partition, walls), in which unexpected games of light and shade come to life. Made of extruded terracotta, the bricks are real design elements that can be installed both vertically and horizontally.

BRAC offers a range of color wines: Argilla, with a natural matte surface, Bianco, Salvia, Marrone and Nero, with a glossy enamelled finish. A collection signed Nathalie Du Pasquier that once again plays on emotion, matter, light and color.

• «CÉLOSIA» collection by Patricia Urquiola

Célosia is a new approach to the typical artisanal production process of terracotta in order to give birth to imperfect and tactile elements that come from the earth, marked by the hand of man and the passing of time. Tiles, bricks, hollow bricks and partitions are undone, deconstructed and reinterpreted in a new way, keeping the traditional touch given by craftsmanship.

Aesthetically unique and extremely functional design elements are thus created, in the nominal size of 20.5×26.5×10 cm. They allow unlimited solutions for indoor and outdoor, in commercial and residential spaces.

• «HIVES» collection by Konstantin Grcic

Hives consists of a single module: a handmade hexagonal brick made of extruded terracotta, an ancient material whose color, texture and properties it preserves. It is a functional 3D element with organic geometry, available in the size 13×22,5×7 that is inspired by honeycombs.

The Hives collection can be used both indoors and outdoors. Made from terracotta, they are ecological and adapt perfectly to different climatic conditions.

Hives’ dual hexagon composite geometry offers two orientations solutions:

• vertically, to create a partition wall or partition with openings shexagonal,
• horizontally, to create an airtight wall and further partition spaces.

Aesthetic and practical, the Hives collection brings innovative solutions in architecture and decoration and gives a fresh boost to a construction technique dating back to 4000 years before Christ.

• Collection Mattonelle Margherita by Nathalie du Pasquier

Designed by Nathalie du Pasquier, Mattonelle Margherita is Mutina’s new 2021 collection. Perfect for small spaces, it can be composed in countless forms. The series is inspired by a vintage style but with a modern touch. An explosion of colours with 41 hand-drawn patterns, available in two sizes:

• 27 graphics and 6 elements united in 20,5×20,5 cm,
• 6 patterns and 2 plain elements in 10,1×20,5 cm,

The graphics can be combined with each other, allowing the creation of multiple layouts, always new and innovative, adapted to tile entire surfaces on floors and walls, or for decorative details such as woodwork effects, baseboards or door frames. The proposed combinations are ideal for those who like to experiment and play with coating materials and colors. The entire collection is in glazed porcelain stoneware with a satin surface, made with a traditional industrial production method.
